Fire Box - 2310

On Easter Sunday at 1457 hours, the West Grove Volunteers were alerted for the full company assist with Avondale Station 23 on a townhouse fire in the 100 Block of Maloney Court in the Inniscrone View section of London Grove Township.

Original reports into the 911 Center stated the house has smoke in the basement and the homeowner is unsure of what is on fire. All occupants evacuated the building prior to any fire department apparatus arriving. Rescue 23 was clearing up from a gas leak, made the response and was first to arrive on scene. Initial size up report stated the correct address with a 2 story front, 3 story rear middle of the row townhouse, wood frame construction with nothing evident from the exterior on sides Alpha and Delta. Rescue 23's crew entered into the structure to investigate while Chief 23 arrived and established "Command 23".

Engine 22 with 4 volunteers followed by Engine 32 and Ladder 22 each with 3 volunteers all made the response. Interior crews were met with a smoke condition in the basement. Engine 23-2 took second due engine company operations and stood by the hydrant for water supply along with Tanker 23. A fire then sparked up at the front entrance to the fire building, Engine 22 arrived, the crew was assigned third due engine company operations and ran a line to suppress the fire on the exterior.

Command 23 reduced the box alarm to the units on scene. Engine 22's crew was then assigned to ventilate the left exposure building Charlie side. After this task was completed Engine 22 was assigned to check the right exposure building 1 and found nothing. After ventilation was complete Command 23 placed the box in service at 1536 hours. The cause of the smoke condition is under investigation.
