House Fire in Franklin Township

By Secretary Bill Wohl
March 14, 2015

Fire pagers alerted members of the West Grove Fire Company of a house fire in the Thompson Estates development along Parsons Road in Franklin Township at 104am Saturday morning. The fire, at the intersection of Thompson Circle and Forest Gump Road was originally reported in a bathroom.

Also dispatched on the call were fire and ambulance units from Avondale Fire Company (23) and an ambulance from the Union Fire Company of Oxford (21).

Upon the response of Chief 22, fire radio advised that additional calls from the residence indicated that the fire was coming possibly from an electrical box at the rear of the house, and that the family had evacuated. Shortly after, Engine and Ladder 22 responded, Followed by Engine 12, Ambulance 21-3, Engine 23-2, Ambulance 23-2 and Engine 32. Tanker 22 and Engine 23-1 also responded.

With close proximity to the fire from the WGFC Station along Route 896, Engine 32 arrived first to report a single family dwelling, with light smoke from the garage. Chief 22 arrived and established Thompson Command, making up the assignment by adding Tanker 21 and an engine from Oxford.

The Engine 32 crew deployed to the house with tools and a water can, finding fire on on the C-side exterior wall (rear of the home). They opened an interior wall and discovered fire in the wall in that same location. Engine 12 crews arrived, stretching an 1-3/4" attack line from Engine 32 to the interior, while Ladder 22's crew laddered the building and started overall ventilation. Assisted by crews from Avondale, firefighters opened up the rear exterior wall and completed the fire extinguishment, as crews checked for extension in the basement.

Crews from Avondale's ambulance checked the condition of the residents, and a manpower pool supplied firefighters to various tasks on the fire ground. Chief 22 reported the fire under control shortly after. There were no injuries.

An investigation is underway by the Chester County Fire Marshals.
