As a winter storm intensified from moderate snow to a full-out blizzard, West Grove Fire Company volunteers were called to the Franklin Township Building for a reported truck fire.
WGFC units had just returned to their stations after a chimney fire on Lewisville Road in New London Township. A steady light snow was falling, with area roadways snow covered and slippery.
Upon dispatch, Engines 221, 222 and 223 responded from their stations, along with Tanker 22. Engine 3 was nearby at Station 222 (formerly Station 32), and was quickly on location to the Kemblesville fire location along Appleton Road. On arrival, Engine 3 reported a snow plow fully engulfed in flames. The 3-man crew pulled an 1-3/4" attack line and attacked the fire. That crew had the fire knocked down as Engine 22-2 arrived from New London. Engine 2 provided a water supply to Engine 3, and the combined crews completed the assignment.
Crews then returned to Station 222 (32) to put Engine 3 back in service. There were no injuries. However. the Franklin Township road crew is minus one snow plow as a 24 hour blizzard began to crank up, with an expected 18+ inches of snow. |
