Warm temperatures and breezy dry conditions helped fuel a fire along State Road in New London Township on Sunday afternoon.

The 911 Center in Chester County received calls of a fire in the woods along State Road between Creek and Thunder Hill Roads just after 2pm. A large column of dense black smoke was seen rising west of New London, visible from West Grove and Landenberg, as the house siren began sounding in West Grove at Station 22.

West Grove firefighters responded with Engines 1, 2 and 3, along with Brush 22 and Tanker 22, as well as an ambulance. First in Engine 22-2 deployed a 1-3/4 attack line, after driving off the road and up onto the hillside. Brush 22 also positioned up in the woods near the seat of the brush and trash fire, deploying their brush line, supplied by the Engine. Engine 1's crew arrived next to support the firefighting efforts, along with the crew from Engine 3.

Tanker 22 also arrived, setting up downhill to supply 3000 gallons of water for the firefight. Fire police also closed busy State Road throughout the incident. There were no injuries reported, and WGFC crews cleared after about an hour.

Units: Engines 1, 2, 3, Tanker 22, Brush 22, Fire Police
