Two accidents on Route 1 one right after the other kept first responders from West Grove Fire Company busy this morning. Both accidents happened within minutes of each other with a third emergency coming just 30 minutes later.

The first accident was on the northbound side just before 11:00am near the Guernsey Road Bridge in London Grove Township. In that accident, a truck and a car collided. The result was damage to the guiderail and the median guide wires. Engine 22-1, Rescue 22 and the Ambulance, along with Fire Police handled that call which resulted in no injuries.

Just a few minutes later, on the eastern side of London Grove Township, on the southbound Route 1 highway near the Glen Willow Road overpass, a car and pickup came together. As a result of the crash, both vehicles wound up between the guide rail and the median guide wires. Engine 22-1, Rescue 22, Ambulance 22-2 responded. With one vehicle very much between the two safety barriers, the call was upgraded to entrapment only to focus efforts on getting the patient out of the vehicle against the barriers. One subject was transported to the hospital.

WGFC Fire Police reduced traffic to one lane, which allowed emergency crews to work. The lane remained closed for some time as a large wrecker was utilized to lift both vehicles from between the safety barriers back onto the roadway where they could be hauled away.

Avondale's Ambulance assisted on the second crash scene. In addition to the two crashes, WGFC units were dispatched to Salem Way in London Grove Township as the second accident was being worked. Rescue 23 from Avondale responded, along with WGFC Utility 22, Ladder 22, and the Rescue from the bypass to handle that third call in the district.
