Units from the West Grove Fire Company assisted the Avondale Fire Company and six other departments on a mobile home fire in New Garden Township late Thursday evening.
Avondale was dispatched for smoke in a bedroom call at 10:11pm along Rocky Springs Road near the intersection of Routes 41 and 7. Ambulance 23 was passing by returning from Christiana Hospital and responded to the residence, where a child had reported something electric was burning. The ambulance arrived on Rocky Springs Road just off Old Limestone Road and reported a heavy smoke condition, and upgraded the call to a working fire dispatch.
That added units from West Grove, Hockessin, Kennett Square, Cochranville, Po-Mar-Lin (Unionville) and Longwood Fire companies. WGFC responded with all three Engines and the Tanker.
Avondale's Engine 23-2 arrived first, laying a supply line form the intersection. Rescue 23 handled the second due engine assignment picking up the supply line, with Tanker 23 serving as the nurse tanker. Engine crews from Engine 23-2 advanced attack lines into the burning mobile home, working to assure there were no trapped victims. Additional crews from area departments assisted in the search and fire suppression efforts, and subsequent major overhaul of the structure (which was a total loss).
West Grove firefighters rotated into the structure, with crews from all three engines doing interior and exterior work, and with WGFC handling the safety office role as well. Tanker 22 supplied the scene with water. WGFC units were on scene for about 90 minutes, with an engine from Lancaster County standing by in West Grove during the incident. |
