Units from five area fire companies responded to burning smells inside the Rite-Aid store in Kennett Square Friday mid-day.
Originally Kennett Square (24) and Longwood (25) units were sent for a fire alarm at the store, but the call was upgraded to a full building fire response due to burning smells in the building. West Grove was requested to send a ladder, and then also a RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) unit. Units from Unionville and Avondale were also requested.
The WGFC responded with Rescue 22, Ladder 22, and Engine 22-3. Ladder 22 was positioned to raise its aerial ladder to the roof with firefighters checking problems with HVAC units that may have been the source of the burning smell. WGFC crews established RIT teams on both sides of the structure.
Fire departments picked up after about 45 minutes on scene. |
