Crash on Route 896 Snarls Traffic

December 9, 2023

While not all car crashes result in injuries or require rescue, the WGFC handles dozens and dozens of car crashes each year.

Last Saturday, at one of the area's crash-prone intersections, two cars wound up in the same place and crashed head on. The crash happened at the intersection of Route 896 and Appleton Road in Kemblesville, Franklin Township. WGFC was dispatched just after 12:15pm for the crash with possible injuries. Arriving units found two cars involved and roadway partially blocked. Rescue 22, Engine 22-3 and Engine 22-1 responded, along with both Ambulances.

Crews from Rescue 22 and Engine 22-3 worked together to move traffic through the scene in one lane, coordinating north- and south-bound traffic on Route 896 and traffic entering from busy Appleton Road. Ambulance crews evaluated all drivers and passengers, and crews managed scene safety until tow trucks could remove the damaged vehicles.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries and WGFC units were on scene for about an hour. The intersection will be reconfigured as a T-intersection with stop signs as part of a Route 896 reconstruction project scheduled to start in the next 18 months.
