The West Grove Fire Company joined with fire companies from four counties to assist the Union Fire Company of Oxford on a working house fire in Upper Oxford Township on Wednesday.

Area fire departments were alerted at 12:13pm for a report of a house with "flames from the roof" along University Road near Route 10 north of the Route 1 Bypass. The WGFC responded with Ladder 22, Engine 22-1, Squad 22, Tanker 22, Utility 22-1, and fire police to the call along with other companies on the initial dispatch including units from Cecil County, and across southern Chester County including Longwood, and Cochranville. Ultimately, companies from New Castle County, Lancaster County and additional Chester County units were called to the scene to assist.

First arriving units found a well-involved house fire, with flames from the roof and upper story windows. As the home was located in an area not served by fire hydrants, a water tanker shuttle was established to supply the fire scene. While the home was substantially damaged, no one was home at the time and there were no injuries. County fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Units were on scene for about four hours. The WGFC thanks the Quarryville Fire Company for standing by in Station 22 during the incident.
