Today, after finishing a couple of fire prevention programs the on duty staff and volunteers took advantage of being in station to do some training together.

Paramedic Taylor Cummings from Medic 94 stopped by and provided an in-depth overview of equipment carried and used by our Advanced Life Support partners. On a daily basis, the teams from the WGFC and Medic 94 work together seamlessly helping those who need pre-hospital care. However, during busy times, the WGFC EMS staff does not always get the opportunity to understand the purpose and function of some of the specialized equipment Medic 94 uses - and this is particularly true of our newer team members. It’s trainings like this where our staff can get an up close look at some of this equipment, while getting an explanation on how each device works and how it assists the paramedic on a call.

During today’s impromptu session, Paramedic Cummings explained and showed the setup of a 12-lead monitor which shows a patient’s heart rhythm, one of the vital signs the pre-hospital care team looks at in assessing a patient's condition and symptoms. Also, while there she showed where various equipment is stored on their response vehicle. Often, WGFC EMTs and first responders assist the paramedics with their equipment and set up so this training is particularly valuable.

Today’s training proved beneficial for several of our newer staff as well as a review for our seasoned staff. Thank you Paramedic Cummings for taking the time to stop by and sharing all of this great information so as a team we can serve our residents at the highest level possible.
