West Grove units were called to assist the Avondale Fire Company 23 along Route 41 for a working house fire this morning.
A reported cooking-related fire led the rear of the home being on fire, with numerous calls to the County 911 Center. Units were dispatched to Gap Newport Pike below the Borough of Avondale, directly across from Avondale Station 23. Arriving police reported fire extension to the attic, which led to a "working fire dispatch," bring more units to the scene from a number of Chester and New Castle County fire companies.
Crews battled heavy fire in the attic, with West Grove Engines 22-1 and -2, Ladder 22, Tanker 22 and Ambulance 22-2 on scene. The fire was declared under control about 50 minutes after dispatch, with units on scene for approximately 90 minutes.
