Crews from the West Grove Fire Company were back in quarters cleaning up from an auto accident on Monday morning when they were alerted to another call: this time, a car fire on the Route 1 bypass.
The original callers had placed the car fire on the southbound side, south of Pusey Mill Road in Penn Township. Rescue 22 responded, along with Engine 22-2. A WGFC fire policeman located the call on the shoulder of the southbound lanes in Lower Oxford Township, south of the Route 896 exit. With the car fire near the Township Road overpass, the call was actually in the district served by the Union Fire Company of Oxford, who was added to the assignment.
Rescue 22 arrived and stretched an 1-3/4" attack line to fight the fully-involved car fire. The remaining crews from both companies assisted with the extinguishment of the fire. With the involvement of burning gasoline, fire extinguishers were used to supplement the hoseline. To complete the work, a foam line from Engine 21-1 of Oxford was also utilized.
Fire police from both companies assisted with closing the roadway while crews fought the fire. There were no injuries. |
