Sunday Brush Fires Highlight Increased Fire Risk
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

April 5, 2021

Warm spring weather and low humidity create the risk of fire spread, and the West Grove Fire Company responded to two brush fires on Sunday.

The first call was a small fire at the base of a tree along Chatham Road (Route 841) in London Grove Township, near London Grove Road. That call was handled by Engine 22-1 from the West Grove Station.

The second call later in the afternoon was located in a remote area behind houses in The Estates of London Brook in Penn Township. The Fire Company was dispatched for a reported fire in a brush filled area behind Larchmont Lane.

Chief 22 found an area burning about 400 feet off the development roadway behind houses. Responding to the call were Engine 22-1, Rescue 22, Brush 22, Engine 22-3, Tanker 22, Utility 22, and the ambulances. Chief 22 directed the initial Engine to pull the 300 foot preconnect off of Engine 1 and stretch the 1-3/4" attack line back into the woods. That hoseline was then extended another 100 feet and used to supply two 1" wildfire lines which were placed in service to extinguish a fire that had spread across a few hundred feet of burning brush and trees.

WGFC units were on the scene for about 45 minutes. There were no injuries, and WGFC Fire Police had roadways in the sub-development closed for a time.

With extra dry conditions and breezy, warm conditions, there is an increased risk of fire spread. See: https://www.wgfc.org/news/1042/Special-Weather-Warning-for-April-5-6----Dry-Conditions-With-Increased-Fire-Risk

Units: Engine 22-1, Brush 22, Rescue 22, Tanker 22, Engine 22-3, Utility 22, Fire Police, Ambulance 22-1
