Southern Chester County received very good news today with the announcement that ChristianaCare has agreed to purchase the former Jennersville Hospital location from Tower Health.

The area’s emergency medical services system has been under enormous strain since Tower Health’s closing of the hospital in late January, and the further closing of Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville as well. Today’s news marks the beginning of a journey toward the return of hospital services in Jennserville, with ChristianaCare expected to take 30 to 60 days to complete the sale and undertake a strategic review of community needs to develop a plan for the facility. No timetable was announced for the opening of the facility or potential services.

The closing of JRH continues to have an enormous impact on the WGFC EMS operation, as well as the operations of other area EMS organizations in the southern portion of Chester County. Extended travel times to more distant hospitals and wear and tear on personnel and vehicles are among the impacts. These impacts will continue until services are opened by ChristianaCare once their process gets underway.
