Thursday afternoon, West Grove firefighters were dispatched to assist the Singerly Hose Company of Elkton on a house fire. Coming in at just before 5pm, WGFC was requested to send a Ladder and Engine to assist, joining units from New Castle County and Cecil County who were requested for a confirmed working fire.
The fire, on Whitetail Way, was in a three story townhome at the end of the row. Initial reports indicated heavy fire that was spreading down the row of townhouses and involving other homes. Even as WGFC units were responding with Ladder 22 and Engine 22-2, the fire was increased to two alarms, bringing additional units.
Engine 22-2 and Ladder 22 arrived, with Engine 2 being assigned as a Rapid Intervention Team (dedicated as RIT for firefighter rescue) and Ladder 22's crew doing overhaul and hitting hot spots up in the residence. The WGFC crew worked on scene for approximately two hours. Meanwhile, WGFC also had crews for Engine 22-1 which remained staffed in district to cover additional calls in the West Grove area.
According to 1st State Update, the fire started on a rear deck, and spread up and into the home. Damage was extensive. See: http://firststateupdate.com/2022/08/video-two-alarm-townhouse-fire-in-elkton-displaces-five/
