Fast work by area firefighters helped limit damage to a Londonderry Township house on Sunday. The West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to assist Cochranville 27, along with units from Union of Oxford 21, Avondale 23, Christiana of Lancaster 52, Longwood 25, and Po-Mar-Lin Unionville 36, for a reported fire on White Horse Road north of Route 926 at 11:06am. Originally dispatched as a shed on fire, the updated reports indicated a shed attached to the dwelling, and ultimately the first arriving 27 officer reported a garage attached to the house, well involved.
The WGFC responded with Ladder 22, Tanker 22, Engine 22-2, Engine 22-3, fire police, and Ambulance 22-1 & 2. Cochranville's first arriving Engine 27-2 laid a supply line up the driveway and aggressively attacked the garage fire with a blitz 2-1/2" line to knock down the fire - an initial attack that helped limit fire spread to the main residence. Ladder 22 arrived quickly to conduct a search of the residence and laddered the building. Tanker 22 provided water supply to Engine 27-2 and served as a "nurse" for the incident for other arriving tankers. Engine 22-2's crew assisted with the fire attack, joining crews from Cochranville and other companies with opening up walls to assure that the fire had not spread to house from the garage.
Ambulance 22's crews handled monitoring firefighters in the manpower pool, with fire police helping with traffic control. Engine 22-3 handled a tanker fill site near Routes 796 & 926 which, ultimately, was not needed. Crews operated for about two hours, with no reported injuries. Our thanks to 52 for standing by at Station 22.
