Historic Stone Barn Destroyed by Fire, WGFC Assists
December 9, 2024
Crews from multiple states and counties assisted the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company of Unionville when dispatched early on Sunday morning for a fire at the Stone Barn.
The initial dispatch just before 3:00am reported a fire in the Stone Barn, with the caller saying the building was fully involved and collapsing. The WGFC was dispatched to assist Station 36, along with fire departments from across Chester County. With an apartment building adjacent to the large barn restaurant, first responders focused on keeping the fire from spreading to other structures, while also battling a large volume of fire with no immediate water supply as the area is rural and not served by fire hydrants.
The WGFC responded with Ladder 22, Squad 22, Tanker 22. Tanker 22 shuttled water as part of a Tanker Task Force from a hydrant on Newark Road closer to Route 1, and Squad 22 supplied the aerial waterway on Ladder 25 for six hours.
