A fire in New London Township on Monday provides lessons for all when burning outdoors this spring and summer.
The West Grove Fire Company was dispatched at 4:18pm for a "brush fire that spread to a lawn tractor." The fire company responded with nearby Engine 22-2 from the New London station, along with Engine 22-1, Brush 22, Tanker 22 and the ambulance. A controlled burn of a woodpile had spread to a nearby lawn tractor and then across the lawn into some trees. Crews deployed handlines and the fire was quickly controlled.
The fire company reminds all that controlled burns of yard waste or any materials can quickly spread in dry, windy conditions like were present on Monday. Also, outdoor fires should always be attended and it is important to have a water hose on hand to help control the fire should it start to spread. Please be safe and use caution when burning outdoors
A controlled burn spread quickly in dry, windy conditions to a nearby lawn tractor and the woods. The WGFC reminds all to use caution on dry, windy days and always have a hose handy.
